Stationary Holder Tutorial ~ Long Post

Here is the tutorial I promised you on the stationary holders. This is my version of how I make them. Sorry for the long post ~ enjoy!
These are all the papers that you will need for this stationary holder. I cut them out and punched them first so you can see. I used Chocolate Chip, Pink Pirouette, Pumpkin Pie and Sweet Always DP. The punches that I used were a corner rounder, Marvy scallop oval punches, SU! oval punches, Martha Stewart Border Punches & SU! scallop border punch. I have 4 - 11" lengths of brown grosgrain ribbon and 2 - 6 1/4" lengths of Pumpkin Pie 1/4" grosgrain ribbon. I also have a pen that I altered and a small notebook that I covered.

Here I have taken two pieces of 6 1/2" x 6" and 6" x 2" piece of Chocolate Chip cs. I scored the 6" x 2" piece along both long sides at 1/2" and applied a sticky strip to it and taped it to the inside bottom of the other pieces - Your stationary holder should be 6" wide and 6 1/2" tall.

I took my SU! wide oval punch and punched in the center top, about 1/4" down to create the handles. I then took a piece of Pink Pirouette cs and punched the large oval in it, then the Marvy scallop border to create the trim piece that I glued to the outside of the holder. This is the time to also round the top corners of your holder.

You will make 3 pockets for this holder. 2 go on the outside of the holder for the cards and one on the inside for the envelopes. The two pockets on the outside are measured at 6 3/4" x 2 3/4". You will score them at 1/4" and 1/2" on 3 sides. Cut the 4 squares out of the two bottom corners and fold them up as shown above and attach a sticky strip to them.

I generally adhere them approximately 1/8" from the bottom and I eyeball them to center. I'm kinda good at that.

You'll want to add a decorative strip to the outside of the pocket. Here I took a 5 3/4" x 1 1/8" strip of Pink Pirouette and used my Martha Stewart punch. I punched the strip and added a length of Pumpkin Pie 1/4" grosgrain ribbon to it.

Here I adhered it to the pocket. You will do this twice, once for each outer pocket.

Now you will make a pocket for the inside. This pocket is 6 7/8" x 2 3/4". You will score it the same as the outside pockets at 1/4" and 1/2" along all three sides. Cut out the 4 little squares in the corner and fold them up, apply the sticky strip and adhere to the inside of your holder, about an 1/8" from the bottom fold. If you adhere it too high your envelopes will stick out above the handle. The added a piece of DP that is cut 5 1/2" x 2" to add to the front of the inside pocket, and also a 5 7/8" x 1 1/8" strip of Pink Pirouette that I used my SU! scallop border punch on. This is optional, if you don't like one or the other you can hold off on those pieces.

I cut this pocket slightly wider because I was having trouble with my envelopes fitting inside. You may notice that this pocket almost stretches to each side, this is fine. It is better to have a bigger pocket on the inside than to not have the envelopes fit.

Now on to the cards. This is a simple way to make a pocket card. You will cut your card stock at 8 1/2" x 5 1/2". You will need 4 cards - I cut two Pumpkin Pie and two Pink Pirouette. Score them at 4 1/4" and 7 1/2".

Use your bone folder to make the creases sharp.

You will take a piece of tape and run about a 2 inch length on your fold.

You will need 4 pieces of DP cut at 5 1/4" x 2 1/2". Take one piece and adhere it under the flap of the card. Once you have done this take your 11" piece of ribbon and place it 1/2 way on the tape strip on the right side and wrap it around the back of the card and bring it around the front to attach to the other side of the tape strip. This is what keeps your card closed.

You will need 4 pieces of white cs that is cut to 5 1/4" x 4" for the inserts. I took some matching DP and cut a strip 5 1/4" x 1" and used my SU! scallop border punch and adhered that piece to the top of the white card insert. I then rounded my corners of the insert and the card itself. I did not show it in the picture but once the card is put together and the insert is complete you will take and stamp a sentiment on to a piece of matching cs and punch it out with your small oval punch and adhere it to a matching cs piece that you will punch with a small scallop oval punch. Attach that to the card where the two ribbon ends meet.

Now we are almost done. You will take your little notepad and cover it with matching DP. You only need to cover the front of the notepad.

Before adhering the notepad down you will need to take a 3/4" x 3" piece of cs and wrap it around your pen and tape it to the inside of the folder close to the bottom seam. Apply your sticky strip to the back of your notepad and adhere it over the pen holder. I would generally take a 3/4" piece of DP and roll it up and put it inside the pen but this pen won't allow me to do that.

Once you've added your notepad and pen put the envelopes inside the pocket and you are done!
