I'm sorry

To all my friends I am terribly sorry that I've not been around. It has been an awful week and half.

My husband and I have been helping my SIL. Her dogs both came down with ailments that needed attention from a vet. Yesterday was the last day of my husbands vacation and we were planning a quick trip out to her house to help out and basically take it easy because we were tired from the running back and forth.

I was woke up about 5:00am by my dog Ginger. I thought it was her wanting to go out and I thought I heard her bust thru the gate we put up at night. If we don't put up the gate she climbs the stairs which is not good for her arthritis.

It was Ginger, not coming thru the gate, but bumping into it. I moved it because I thought she had to go... She stumbled and could not get up and was panting like she was in a panic. By this time the whole house was up and down there. My poor Ginger died in my arms yesterday morning. She was my best friend, my confidant, my baby.
Now I know that you have to be a dog lover to understand, but I am really going thru a tough time right now. Please be patient with me. There are obligations I have to some of you, and please don't worry. I will be there. I just need some time right now to myself, to mourn. Ginger has been a part of my life for almost 9 years. She was the center of the family. Always under my feet, following me from room to room. She is the reason why I drove out here from California instead of hopping on a plane. 2500 miles under her belt and she still went crazy when you took her for a ride - she loved it!
With her just passing, it's almost as I feel I don't know what to do. Each day is a routine. I get up in the morning to get my hubby off to work and we go thru the routine together. Amazing as it may sound I think the dog was almost human. For those of you who know me personally you know how she is when her Daddy comes home. It's almost like she can tell time. She gets so excited to see him running back & forth from window to door til he pulls in the driveway. She is going to be missed terribly.

Thank you everyone for understanding. I will try to be back very soon.

Hugs,
Joani

Oh my Joani, I have tears streaming down my cheeks reading your post. I just went thru this about 2 weeks ago and it is just too fresh in my heart. I don't have a day that I don't break down, so you take you time and grieve. I wish I were there to grieve with you. Sometimes I feel that a hug would help so much, but most people don't understand what it is like. This has not been our year--my FIL passed in March, my dad in Sept., Abby in Oct. and now Jerry has lost his job last week. 2009 HAS to be better. So, I guess what I am saying is that I understand your pain and go ahead and take all the time you need. I am so sorry.
Hugs to you.
Cheryl

I am so sorry for your family as I personally have seen you all with Ginger. Here is a poem for you...
Love, Betty

Heaven's Doggy Door

My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.

The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms,
Were of his younger puppy years,
And Oh...his many charms.

Today there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart that's filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.

But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a doggy door!"

Oh, Joani,

I cannot even begin to imagine what your going through. I do know however that if it happened to me I would feel exactly the same. My little kitties are my world. I would be lost without them. I send you lots of love and hugs your way. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs
Nic

Joani I am so sorry to hear of Ginger's passing.. I understand how you feel.. My day is coming soon with my oldest Gizmo and I dread the day.

It is so wonderful that you enjoyed her and loved her so much.. Some people have a dog and it's just a pet not a member of the family..

Hugs, Renee

I do not know you (I have been checking out your blog for about a month now); but I know how you feel, devastated to say the least. Please know that prayers are coming your way to hopefully ease your pain. My husband and I (both in our early 50s) have no 2-legged children but we have two beautiful 4-legged children who we absolutely adore. We have Buster, a beagle 8 years old and Toby, a sheltie 3 years old. Hopefully, you can have peace knowing that Ginger is in a better place.

OH JOANI...my heart is hurting right now and I am in tears. Being a dog lover and also having lost a dog we had for many years...I know how you are feeling. Big hugs to you and know that even though I am not around...I am there with you in spirit. I know it's no comfort...but at least now Ginger isn't suffering from the arthritis and is running in doggy heaven. BIG BIG HUGS JOANI!

Oh Joani, I am sooo terrribly sorry to hear about your baby! I can't imagine what you must be going thru. I never understood how people got so attached to a dog until I became a dog parent. So my thoughts are with you during this difficult time and if you need anything let me know :)
